Education
The SECAR is dedicated to educating the local population, visitors and both lay and academic scholars on the unparalleled prehistoric and historic archaeological resources to be found on the island. Public lectures, school programs, archaeological tourist programs (Excavation Experiences), and the Young Archaeologists Club (YAC) provide opportunities for fulfilling this goal. A bi-monthly local radio programme and an ongoing global media presence also contribute to SECAR's education efforts.

Historical Preservation
As the Caribbean is developed, both environmental and archaeological resources can be adversely affected. St. Eustatius is no exception to this process. Standing Historical Architecture and Archaeological sites are not a renewable resources and preventing economic development is not a viable option. Where permanent preservation is impossible, the SECAR works in conjunction with developers to build a cooperative and positive atmosphere whereby data loss is minimized.
Innovation
The SECAR strives to consistently incorporate the very latest innovations in field recording strategies, sampling techniques, and specialized environmental analysis. For example, a mechanical sifter has been constructed and new methods for artifact cataloging using barcodes are in development with the objective of increasing excavation efficiency. 3-Dimensional models in ArcView® GIS are also being employed in archaeological analyses on St. Eustatius.
