Feedback from previous volunteers:

"Statia was one of the best experiences of my life. Unlike previous digs I had been on, where volunteers were often given peripheral tasks; we were able to give all aspects of archaeological excavation a try. By the end of my time there I had gained invaluable experience and was pleased to have been able to contribute towards piecing together the island's history" Harriet Bloore.

"I thoroughly enjoyed my excavation experience in Statia this year (June 2004), it will be remembered fondly. Though having no prior archaeological experience, sufficient instruction from enthusiastic and inspirational project leaders enabled my fieldwork contribution to be significant. While being of scientific background, experience that I gained in "real-life" research, such as project planning and team member co-operation will no-doubt be significant in my future careers. Statia is a beautiful island, as are its people. Its laid-back friendly atmosphere was reflected within the group, allowing our work to be enjoyable and effective and indeed, successful!" Christopher Roome

"The time I spent excavating on Saint Eustatius was amazing and I would encourage anyone to take the opportunity to do the same. The combination of working in such beautiful surroundings and being amongst such a small Caribbean community made it truly unique. Everyone had the chance to get involved with all elements of the dig, and ultimately I felt that I had really achieved something. Grant's enthusiasm for the dig was infectious and as such I learned an incredible amount whilst I was there." Claire Scudder "

Digging on Statia was an amazing experience.  I learned loads from all the different hands-on, archaeological work we did, made some really good friends and had a great time doing it!  You'd think a summer on a tiny island might get boring after a while, but no two days were the same - there was always something new to do, be it fieldwalking, digging, drawing, finds processing, or hiking up to the rainforset in the quill, scuba diving the shipwrecks in the harbour, playing volleyball/soccer for the island teams, dancing at the summer Mardi Gras, or sampling the local rum under the stars at a bonfire on Zeelandia beach" Tiva Montalbano.
